Suggestive Thoughts: How Satan holds you Hostage

He who has the mind has the foot…

One of the biggest breakthroughs I had this year, was when The Lord helped me to realize that the thoughts that I was internalizing and struggling with, was not originally my own. Sifting through thoughts and feelings, the Holy Spirit showed me the beginning point, and surprisingly, it all started with a suggestive thought from the enemy.

Satan’s constantly present thoughts, that could easily be disguised as something I would have come up with myself; I took it, internalized it, developed feelings of ownership towards it and the battle began. Read: “Hypno-lied” 4 Important Steps to Stop the Devil in His Tracks

2 Corinthians 11:3 says “But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness,
so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.”

Hostage: He captures you with a thought and owns you with a thought.

If the devil can get your mind, he can get access to your feelings (emotions), and emotions lead to actions. Those actions, if not governed by God will lead to a fall.

The serpent spent 5 verses in the Bible, trying to convince Eve that it was okay to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil (read Genesis 3:1-5). The serpent challenged Eve’s perspective on obedience with a suggestive question.

“…Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” Genesis 3:1

By verse 6, Eve had abandoned obedience; and adopted the serpent’s corrupt logic. She internalized it, found “truth” in it, made it her own, then acted it out. Thus the fall of man came from a suggestive thought.

Satan’s system of deception is to give you his thoughts in your mind until you adopt them as your own. When you do, it becomes a stronghold.

“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.” Genesis 3:6

Who’s idea is that?

“I’m not good enough”

“I can’t make it.”

“I’m afraid.”

“I can’t do it.”

“I’m not beautiful.”

“I’m not smart.”

“I’m too ________ (insert insecurity).”

“No one cares.”

“No one likes me.”

He/she’s better than me.”

“I’m not worth it.”

“It’s not worth it” (goals, aspiration)

“It’s too difficult.”

“I should quit”

“He/she thinks I’m _____ (insert negative thought)

There is a long list of projected thoughts that Satan wants you to believe; from negative self-talk to negative thoughts of others. He even tries to make you question and doubt the validity of The Word of God, and bring confusion towards your purpose. Satan knows once you begin to believe him, he’s got your mind and he’s got you, right where he wants you.

The origin of those thoughts and ideas are not yours. It is only yours when you adopt it as your own. Proverbs 23:7 says For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”

Freedom

God thinks highly of you!
“How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!” Psalm 139:17

In order to obtain freedom, you must examine your thoughts and discern good from evil. Which thoughts and feelings have a negative effect on you, and which ones leading you to God? After categorizing them, cast down the thoughts that are not serving you, and give it to Jesus in prayer. Read: “Hypno-lied” 4 Important Steps to Stop the Devil in His Tracks

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5

Don’t let Satan win, fight for your freedom. There is victory in Christ Jesus.

Thank you. In any war we need to know who the enemy is and the weapons they use. I was very blind to satan’s weapons and was living a good works Christian life and thought I was so godly. Oh boy was I being setup. When we think we are somebody (which the enemy loves to makes us think) we forget to live with humility and start to drift to being very proud. Then we fall. But praise God, He has used this sifting process in my life to make me a real man and now I know what not to do. Whew!
